The way I see it, he exposed it.  The runway was going bad for some time but it took some jet-wash to actually reveal it.

I have landed on some bad runways, but this one takes the cake.

One more thought....  The most dangerous thing to a jet engine, especially these old ones found in the Vampire, is runway debris.  This vampire is lucky he was able to take off without a flameout or an engine fire from sucking in a foreign object.

Looks like a typical government funded road to me.

From what i know, this runway was actually up for demolition, and this was planned to be the last plane ever to take off from it. All planned!
