If so, this seems like an awesome low cost high end option.

I recall something in the original announcement (now missing from the website) that a "ground mode" was going to be forthcoming for both the X4S and X5S.  Reading the tea leaves I'd say that's either a new handle or a new adapter.  Probably the former since the X4S/X5S use h.265.  That might be incompatible with the wifi transmission on the existing handle.

I read somewhere that some of the electronics for the new cameras (X4/5S) are in the drone body, not the camera. If so that means they will need to be put in the handle for the ground option, so doubt it will work on the present Osmo.

Any updates yet on a new handle for the X5S?

I was waiting for the release of X4s but no luck... I think I will back to GoPro

Yeap, it seems like there will be no  x4s  x5s in osmo or the company will annouced it in 3 or 4 years. We are waiting almost 1 year now and no news at all. Time to move to another solution.

It's impossible to mount X4S and X5S to the present Osmo series, we are not sure if there will be other accessories or another Osmo in the future, I'm sorry that I have no idea either.

Are you saying that the Osmo is dead?

Your site states that x4s is coming in some sort of osmo thing.

I really hope that DJI doesn't do the same as Samsung when it retired from the photo market without any annnoucement to th e consumers.

lmc, I really do not know the future release because it's kind of trade secret, no one knows including us internal staff until the release date. I'm sorry that I am incapable to provide more information. Thanks for your understanding.
