Begginers jinx???

Was trying my drone over a marsh/now turned river due to spring floods that have been going for over a month now.

Was able to track it back by driving (by using the Find My Drone function) over to the other side of the marsh and walked a path in 3' of water for about 15 minutes.  It's stuck on 30+ feet high tree over the water.  The place is 1.5 hours drive from my house and will try to make it fall tomorrow with a perch or something.

Why did it happen ??  Well I made it fly backwards so I could film a walkay that was partially washed away by the floods from one side of the marsh to where I was standing on the other side.

I've tried front obstacle avoidance nad it works as designed but backwards??? none and as I couldn't see the Mavic Pro it from the other side of the marsh.

so tomorrow I'm driving over with a lader, a 16' perch and will try to dislodge it as long as the park rangers don't stop me before for walking in a protected environment,

Wish me luck from a noob.

I ve never had one that close to the trunk of a tree, usual here the trees are covered in leaves and h quad is on the canopy. I use a fishing rod and reel with a 1/2" nut and try to cast near and shake it loose or catch an arm.
Im amazed with the mavic as a whole and will bet rear and top side sensors are coming on v2 at some point.

You do realise there are no sensors at the back of the Mavic? Most people have this option turned off unless they really are in an open space with no obstacles.

Well I had my first crash today flying sideways into a bush covered hill.  Hell of a scramble to get to it but thank god for the Find My Drone feature with beeping.  Could do with being a lot louder though.

Is that in the New app update or separate thing?

Yeah, Find My Drone is there since 4.0.5 (or 4.0.6).

@fans5818f92a: As mentioned before, Mavic Pro doesn't have backward obstacle sensing. Only the Phantom 4 Pro has almost 360° obstacle sensing/avoidance!

Your Mavic has only forward obstacle avoidance and downward VPS with ultrasonic sensors to maintain it's height.

Well was able to retrieve my drone but battery was missing (must be when it hit the tree) and drone fell in the water anyway as it went 3 feet away from where I was as it came hiting the other branches on the way down.  Gimble is off it's base so the camera is just dangling from the wires,

It took me 3x 12' telescopic poles and  1x 6' 5" + my height (5' 11") in order to dislodge it from the tree top (only hardware available at 8am before my 1.5 hour drive over to the drone), so it was at around 40' high.
Chainsaws are not allowed since it is protected land.
