Hi DJI,

As an European I definitely need to record 25FPS with the Spark in Pal. It's essential for incomporating Spark footages with our 25FPS cameras.

Are you planning a software update ?

Thanks!

Absolutely 2nd this. Can't believe we're actually having to ask a global company that deals with video this.

Exactly! I guess it's not harder to stepdown from 30 fps to 25 fps...

ditto..  I agree it would be good to have it create 25FPS natively, however can you not just convert it by digitally dropping every 6th frame?  As the human eye can see movement at 12FPS, I doubt it will see 5FPS difference, especially as we are talking digital here and not film.  Just a thought.
Let us know how you get on.
Thanks.

If you are removing frames, you are creating stuttering, that's simple. If you care about image quality you'll never do that. Every classic camera you are buying is recording in 25 or 50 in PAL and 30 or 60 NTSC, there is exceptions of course but most of the stuff are working like that, every drone DJI has sold was working like that. So it's stupid if right now they are changing that.

100% agreement!
Especially technical it should be no problem to add 25fps.

DJI, please do this on a future firmware, otherwise many potentially (especially) european customers think twise before they buy the spark... in my opinion...

Please Dji, can we have 24fps for good cinematic and 25fps for european camera compatibility?

Please Dji, can we have 24fps for good cinematic and 25fps for european camera compatibility?

For YouTube videos may be the 30 fps no problem, but even the impressive quickshot footages are predestined to include it on a vacation bluray. And the bluray standard in Europe is 25fps..

All other copters from DJI have at least the PAL/NTSC option.

So can anyone from DJI here give a statemant if the 25fps (and 24fps for cinematic) is planned for future firmware updates?

It might not be able to go 50fps but it should go 25 easily. It must!

How is possible not to have PAL on a 1st class drone?

We need Pal (25fps) on the Spark drone, this is critical for video editing.

Please push up this thread!!!

+1 on the 25fps switch!!! Or PAL version.. it is not cannibalizing the Mavic Pro... It would be doing already so in the US Market then, this way it's just penalizing European markets

Why do you feel it is critical for editing?

It's critical due to our frequencies of our electric grid. All lights will flicker like crazy if the video isn't in sync with the frequency of the electrical grid.

But sorry, I am European, indeed, Italian we specify
Why 25fps?
Do you have to do the dvd for the family? still exist dvd?
there are still  people using blue-ray? Your TV does not have usb?
We Italians the last wheel of the European wagon ...I do not find neccesary 25fps but 50fps and 60fps is more frame = more details and more smooth video ..

Okay, I was joking

But I would prefer more 50 and 60fps ...

Unfortunately as i thought that would be an option included in the latest update i started this thread:
http://forum.dji.com/thread-106238-1-1.html

Since July 11th i was told that this would be included in the next update which didn't. Instead they managed to make them fall down dead.

I 've talked with phone and mail support without a definitive answer other than that the developers have been informed and they might include in a future update maybe.

A lot of people saying there is no problem but those people are the ones trying to fly the spark with their hand. We thought it was a great tool to add to our workflow for some special scenes where the inspire can't go but never expected to face this amazingly stupid issue. It's so frustrating that the simple camera function does not exist.

Summer is ending, our project includes a lot of footage with inspire shot in 24/25fps from last year therefore spark is still unusable.

Again it's sooo stupid and pointless.

I I totally agree with you.
25 fps is necessary.
24 fps for cinematic is also important.

Here is a great explanation of the relationship between shutter speed and electricity mains frequency. We need 25fps in Europe.

For what it is worth, this omission is a real deal breaker for me and I contacted customer service about this.
Of course they could not give any confirmation, but they immediately knew what I was talking about and stated:

'I understand Peter. Unfortunately we do not have information about the Firmware upgrade of the Spark yet. however i believe that DJI is working on it since we do have customers like you are waiting for it. and for that you can check our website from time to time for the Update Peter.'

So nothing concrete, just wait and see.....

in Europe it is the standard

And for a good reason also.
30fps footage will interfere and just converting to 25fps makes for stuttering motion.
I have yet to investigate on the slowing down of the footage to see how that looks, but it feels like lot's of work and I'm not sure about the end result.

thank you for explaining that for me. i did not know the reasons it was the standard i just knew it was. in Canada 30FPS is OK but i would prefer 60FPS. to be honest there aren't many cameras that do not shoot in 25FPS if they shoot in 30. i think the spark is the first i have ever heard of.

True, it is a strange and (for me) unheard omission.
Oh wait. Apple has the same strange lock on 30fps on my iPhone SE

Just because I was curious about the effect of my options I rendered some iPhone footage (shot in 30fps) in a 25fps framerate.
In the same clip I also slowed down the same shot to 0,833% (which would make 25fps footage).Watch the trees stutter as I take the turn.

Look here for the clip:

And now for the same footage rendered in 30fps framerate.

So you can clearly see the difference. The last clip is much more smooth. This means I (we in PAL users) will have some hard time combining the footage with other footage shot in 25fps.

Seems that indeed most people bought this to use as a toy. I bought it to be used as an extra tool for filming under specific conditions. Unfortunately i don't believe that there will be an update for 25fps. They market this as a toy. It's no surprise so many of them got lost or fell from the sky. I bet that 80% of the cases is the user's error. The other 20% is pure Dji. The fact remains we are stuck with it since we were told there will be an update and now time has passed so we can't return it to the reseller.
