I have read many sources stating that the Mavic's sensor at 60 fps uses data binning that reduces effective resolution.
However I could not find any information regarding whether binning is used at 50 fps or not. Or better to tick with 30fps?
Does anybody know?

If video quality is what counts for you, go for 4k@30fps. The Mavic is very bad at scaling down so that 2.7k or 1080p will give you worse results.

I'd only go for any other resolution than 4k if the high frame rate is really, really required.

I always suspected that down-scaling is not good in Mavic's firmware but I was rather afraid that 4K at 60 Mbps will be too compressed and even pixelated.

I am going to shoot cameras test chart in different modes and compare results. We'll see then
I do not expect to see compression artifacts on static picture but at least I can estimate effective resolution

Here are results of image resolution tests:
I shot in D-Log at +1 0 0

Conclusion: shoot at 4K to get the best results and never shot at 50 fps or higher. Later I will compare sharpness settings but as far as I can see even 0 sharpness provide worse results. You can reproduce it yourself - just download any test image and shoot using diffrent settings.

4K@30fps shows the best results

4K@30

4K@30

2K@30fps is not as good as 4K but it is still OK

2K@30

2K@30

1080@30fps looks worse than 4K or 2K which means downscaling in Mavik is not too good

1080@30

1080@30

1080@50fps looks totally crap that confirms that at high frame rates binning is used to read the data from the sensor effectively reducing image resolution

1080@50

1080@50

Unfortunately what we see on this page is jpg - all the same 78 kb size.  So I'm not surprised you don't see much difference here. Talk about down scaling :-)  But I trust your eye.

Have you tried 4k @ 30fps?

Tnx and share your observations that fit very well with my feelings about the Mavic camera. Decent 1080 video quality goes through a 4k recording and downscaling in post.

The camera's software engineering looks like something <2010 technique in my eyes.

Regards Leif.

See, now I thought the best results were with 2.7k at 30 fps overall.    Not that the 4k 30 is bad, but I did not think the 4k 24fps was as good.   What am I missing here?

That was a typo in my post regarding results. 4K was shot at 30 fps actually. I have amended the post.
To my eyes 2K started to show (well, very little) degrading quality as compared to 4K due to downscaling. But like I mentioned earlier - it is still acceptable so if the disk space is a concern then shooting in 2K is a good choice

Hi Utkin. How you shot in 30 FPS? Coz I have only 24 FPS in App settings when shot in 4k.

In Mavic there are two 4K formats that you can choose. One is DCI 4K 4096x2160 and another UHD 4K 3840×2160.

The latter lets you shoot at 30fps
