I don't have a smart phone or tablet, I would like to buy a used android phone and use it just for the dji app without having a cell phone contract.  Would this work?   

yes it will, but you would have to have a wifi connection to download the DJI APP and install it on the phone.
I'm using a tablet and have no wifi service on it.  I can connect to wifi service through my netgear router.

Thanks for the quick reply,  In looking for a phone, do you need a hi rez screen like 720p or higher for the app, or would a 320x240 screen work just fine.

With a lower resolution, the picture would not be as clear.  I am using an
Apple iPad 2 32GB, Wi-Fi + 3G (AT&T), 9.7in - White!! (Low FW iOS 6.1)
My tired old eyes needed something bigger than my phone. ;-)

Hi all! I am wanting to use an old Acer tablet but i found out today that it cant be up graded to the required 4.0 or up android OS. I do however want to use a larger screen than a phone (old eyes).
Gerry, how do you mount it on the controller?
