Easy answer Mike, I do shoot in HLG and have for years. Up till now I haven’t had any need for it apart from keeping the master files to license to broadcasters/streamers who are more and more asking for HDR footage. So yes, while I post online in 709 I still have all the original HDR master material. Having said that, the previously horrendous costs of HDR monitors is coming down so I still might end up re-editing some older HLG-shot films and of course, new ones too, Plus I now have an OLED TV that can play HLG natively so that adds incentive!
Got you Chris, no worries. I hear you, that's great that you have the originals in HLG, you capture the most dynamic range this way and just share in SDR. I know it's not ideal, but I ended up going with a gaming HDR monitor, it's not the $20,000 reference monitor that professionals use, but it is still better than nothing. I use Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX, it's great for gaming and HDR rendering. Those OLED TVs are great I hear, I have a Samsung QLED and it's just couple of years old, but the next one I might go for OLED. Enjoyed your video a lot in SDR Chris.
Take care, Mike. |
