what people fail to understand, not those in this thread, is that it is a VERY small percentage of buyers that actually come on forums like this or post YT videos. its the same for all products. i'm also a photographer and if you go to some of the well known photo forums you see a TON of whining and complaining about so and so camera, but its those few vs. the tens of thousands of happy customers that never visit a place like this.

with any piece of technology there's gonna be duds. there's so many parts that can go wrong, but we have to keep in mind that these duds by and large are most likely the very small percentage of the overall numbers of the product that has been made. plus there's also gonna be user error and many of these people won't be willing to take the blame and responsibility so they blame it on the equipment.
happy flying everyone!

19 short flights and about an hour of stick time with no issues. Weather has been crap, so short fli ...

A very small percentage of airbag inflators malfunction.  A tiny percentage of Pintos exploded in rear-end collisions.  A small percentage of Galaxy Note 7 phones caught fire.  Despite the small number of known defective units ALL of these were recalled due to potential safety concerns.

We don't know how many Mavics have been delivered so we dont know exact proportions, but nearly every day we are seeing fresh reports of Mavics dropping to ATTI mode and/or becoming uncontrollable.  Often these situations end in a crash or loss of the aircraft.  While pilot experience plays a part in properly setting up the aircraft & reaction to a situation, there isn't much a pilot can do about a bird dropping to ATTI or failing to respond to control input.  These issues have nothing to do with pilot skill.

DJI needs to quickly determine the cause & correct this or give serious consideration to recalling the Mavic until the matter is resolved.  We have seen numerous reports of birds flying 20-30 flights before the ATTI/control issue occurs so just because a unit has flown a few flights doesn't mean it is necessarily safe.  This is unquestionably a potential safety concern & the proportions are certainly at least as high as the recalled items mentioned earlier.

JMHO...

My Mavic has been fantastic. First drone I've ever owned. Against a lot of suggestion on this forum, I opted not to get a cheap drone to practice with before getting the Mavic. I am very glad I didn't and now I am 45 flights in. I know I have a lot to learn, but the DJI Go App's Simulator was great to use for an hour or two before actually flying the Mavic. From there, beginner flight mode made it easy to learn on my first couple of  flights. Now I am an addict to fly this thing, waking up early to fly before work, and randomly going outside at night to watch it hover. I crashed it indoors and learned afterwords it was totally user error (not understanding DVS in low light may not let the drone hover in place, thus causing slow drift). I hope I don't encounter any bugs/unexpected issues, but so far it has been amazing.

DJI have really got this right, supply constraints aside, I wouldn't change a thing.

Mines been working great. I was really worried about camera issues before I got it but mines perfect. I had a issue with a wheel error from my controller but after 5 controller calibrations it's been good. Over all I'm very happy with my mavic.

I have about 2.5 hours over 25 or so flights, (mostly short flights).  No issues and it performs fantastic.  So far, I have used only a few of the intelligent flight modes.  Point of interest and active track.  This thing is absolutely amazing.  This is my first drone and am a pretty conservative pilot so I can't say I've "pushed" the mavic yet...although I don't think I want to!   Haven't touched sport mode yet.  I have read the manual a number of times and it has proven to be beyond helpful.   Now I just need to get better at flying so I can get some good footage!  Thanks to everyone on this forum that continues to provide helpful feedback!

Mines been perfect. Was very thorough in making sure i updated firmware, read instructions, watch tutorials etc. Have done mostly short flights to practice and test out the different modes. so far over 20 flights and haven't had any close calls. I think as long as your ambition doesn't overtake your ability then its happy days.

I will admit it is great to hear more positive feedback. After watching so many people doing silly things on YouTube and losing their Mavic I tend to believe the majority of the issues are user created. I hope to be posting here soon with my overly positive experience too... though that may not be for another month or two at the rate they are shipping. Still I believe this is one of the best drones created. I've thought about buying the P4P and canceling the Mavic order but I just love the way the Mavic looks and how it compacts into such a small convenient package. Keeping my fingers crossed and trying to be more patient.

First drone. 25 flights and it has been perfect.  Have not touched a single calibration, even out of the box. It has not prompted once and I have not initiated any.  I have noticed compass errors when surrounded once by a metal railing.

I feel it's a waste of time to "get a cheap drone to practice with" before getting a Phantom/Mavic/Inspire/etc. because cheap drones don't work anything like these others. May as well say "practice flying a kit first". That would be just as useless. Glad you re happy with your Mavic!

15 Flights, 1hr 6min. 6,380 Metres (Only because it has not rained 3 times in the last 2 months) . Updated Firmware, Flown as is out of the box. Absolutely Perfect! Seems to work as it should. Only issue I had was waiting so long.... actually still waiting for my Per-Order from Best buy Canada (Sept 27th!!), but managed to snag one from the local apple store!

Anyways Super happy with the product. So far so good... need more sunny days though!

Happy Flying!!

Have a few flights on mine and the Mavic itself works perfectly and is awesome.  I can't get some of the intelligent flight modes to work, but I'm using a droid phone and I hear the DJI Go app doesn't always like that.  Wondering if Litchi would help with that or not......  Anyway, no problems with the Mavic - love it!

Mine works really well as well.

A few little issues, but in no way deal breakers:

1) Lost visual signal a few time due to interference. (Radio Towers nearby) Solution: Fly in a different spot.
2) "Follow Me" function not working. This seems to be an Android phone bug, seems to work on iPhones

Love the drone!

I've flown my mavic three times this week and it's been awesome. This is my first drone I've flown besides the simulations I've played on my iPad waiting for my mavic. I've had no problems. It's much funner to fly then I thought it would. I've flown most of the time in sport mode but kept it pretty close by. Gets up to 40mph very quickly. Still trying to get the hang of using the camera and video setting but I'll get there. A couple pictures I've gotten from my first flights.

1.5hrs of flight time, 25,630 ft,  10 flights, max altitude 400ft. Max distance of 12,000 +/- ft.  Active Track- works as designed (use extreme caution in congested areas, ie. bldgs, trees, etc.), gesture mode- works as designed.  So far those are the only intelligent modes I've used. Love it!!!!
