Hello,

I am new to the drone world and I have just purchased my first drone a Mavic Air and waiting for it to be delivered. I have a few questions I am wondering if members could help me with?

1. Are there any clubs that I could join here in the UK?

2. Insurance is it compulsory and who do you recommend?

3. Are there any new laws coming into force that I need to be aware of?

Im sure that there will be a lot more questions to come over the next few weeks/months.

Thank you.

Neil

Hi Neil, you will be looking forward to getting your new Mavic. You will have to sit a test and register with the CAA before flying see https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/individual. There should be new laws coming out in July. The BMFA is worth joining and will also cover you for insurance- https://bmfa.org/join-renew/join-the-bmfa They will also be able to advise you on your nearest club. The Covid - 19 restrictions in the UK may affect your flying just now. It will give you plenty of time to read the manual several times and search the internet for good advice and tips. Take heed of them, stick to the flying rules and fly safely and you will do just fine. Most of all enjoy your new machine and have fun! Iain

Hi Iain,
Thank you for your reply and the information. I do have my operators and flyers id so ok there. I have joined the BMFA but not had a chance to have a look around as yet.

I thought under the current circumstances it would be a good time to buy a drone as I wouldn't be tempted to go out and try to fly without reading all the manuals and getting to know the drone. I will be looking on the Youtube for advice and tips.

Hi, Jorge. Thank you for reaching out. May I know what happens when you try to download the DJI Fly app?  Please download the app from the official website instead. Here is the link: https://www.dji.com/downloads/djiapp/dji-fly. Also note, that the DJI Go Fly is not an official app. Please keep me posted if you need further assistance. Have a nice day.
