DJI Memory - Filming my first Steam Engine.


Shot on Mini 3 Pro,  Mavic 2 Pro and Oslo Mobile 3.

Oh wow!  That's the way to do it. Superb.
Last time a steamer came through our village it was raining cats and dogs - and it was running over an hour late

Im sure it was at the end of this stretch of line having an issue,  little puffs of smoke kept appearing and then eventually it was clear.    Flying two drones and the OM3 was a bit of an experience though.      There's a couple of moves in the source video I had to cut out,  I forget how different the Mavic and Mini 3 flys so my mussle memory is tuned to Mini 3 more now,   Also its a bit of a rush.

PS Did you like the sound track.  

Very cool to fly right above it. Next time through the smoke? Good sound design. Is there a diesel engine at the back?? WTF?

PS Did you like the sound track.

It did match the movement of the train pretty well at first - except as you were flying above and behind, in the steam and smoke, it should have been getting quieter rather than louder.    I notice that there was a diesel engine tagged on behind to help with any uphill segments, or in case of breakdowns.

The diesel pushed it down to the start of the trip,   Im wondering if the whole thing is a bit of a fake now.

They were laughing at me,   I had cut a wooden board about 20 inches long and drilled a hole at each end for some rope and used that as a hanging shelf around my neck.

The one I saw and filmed here just before we moved in, had a diesel engine behind it to help on the gradients, but the steam engine was definitely pulling it.  Had to film that one with the smartphone as it caught us unawares. I sent it to Monty at the time.

I didnt see it myself but the guy who lives by the railway line said it was being pushed and no steam was being made as it came down.  Maybe preserving the coal for the real trip.

The next train should be later,  around 9am so the light might be better for that.

by 9 AM it should be high enough to not effect the shot too much.

Fingers crossed for that,  but we are now heading into winter so the sun should be moving in the sky more to the right of where it was in this shot.

It will start slowly creeping in once we hit September,   the media will probably promise an Indian summer which will never appear.

So does that mean you winter creeps in around September and then crawls off in April?  If so, that makes for one long winter.  I think I much prefer having just Spring and Summer here.

Yeah that would be about right,    just our winters dont tend to be that harsh here.  just miserable

As long as it is not as bad as the winters in Northern Scotland.  I had to spend a month in Thurso, Scotland doing some contract work for what was a Navy base there at the time.  It was winter and it was cold, snowy and so very windy.  Just chilled me to the bone.

Brilliant subject and video, I'm sure many will find this impressive, especially Monty

Was the audio captured from the train, and how did you record it?? Or did you find the audio elsewhere? Ah well, no matter how you did it, it fits the video perfectly

We usually miss most of that down in the southeast where I am.

You did a fine job with combining them, it is easy to assume the audio is from the original video.

Well we can't have everything ideal now can we.  We just have to make the best of what mother nature brings each day I suppose.
