On the Inspire 3, I'm wondering what is the image quality at 8K-60P ? Is it 12-bit or 14-bit?
Thanks

I could be wrong, but I think the Proress 422 profile only supports 10 bit?

If you're recording Raw its probably 12 - 14 bit.

12-bit offer 4080 shade of colors while 14-bit give 4X about 16000+ shade of colors.
So, the Inspire 3 offer 12 or 14-bits and what fps for this.
I heard that 14-bits works with 23.98fps only.
The reading change and the Inspire 3 works on 12-bits for 30fps and more.
So, if I want the best image quality possible, cine like, the most close look of 16-bits, should I shoot on prores raw 23.98 or cinema dng 23.98 ?

DJI not really want to talk about this. He should...

Hi there, the camera video resolution can be checked here:
Bit depth for each code (not related to the resolution and framerate):
Cinema DNG: 16bit
ProRes RAW: 12bit
ProRes 422 HQ:10bit
H.264: 10bit
Note: H.265 video coding format is not supported.

Shooting bellow 30 fps is only really usable if there is not much motion in it.
The answer to why that is, is easy.

Bellow 30 fps the rolling shutter speed of the X9 is 31.3 ms.
Above 30 fps the rolling shutter speed of the X9  is 16.3 ms

This lead us to mainly shoot 50/60 fps for a usable rolling shutter.
There are shots where it not matters as much. But why risk it in the first place.

So they do some changes when shooting above 30 fps.
This could be done by reducing bit depth or line skipping.

DJI has never actually declared rolling shutter speeds and why they get useable only above 30 fps.
It would be really helpfull to get a answer from DJI on that behaviour.

Hi there, the camera video resolution can be checked here: [view_image]
Bit depth for each code (not related to the resolution and framerate):
Cinema DNG: 16bit

You defined the bit depth of the codec. But not if you actually write the full resolution in that file.
It would be easy possible to write 10 bit footage in  a 14 bit codec ;)
50% reduced rolling shutter speed by choosing 30+fps makes me think..hmmmm...

What I understand and that's clear from Arri...
The Alexa mini LF  image s processed in 16-bits linear space. Same for the Sony Venice 2. This is in Arriraw mode from Arri and X-OCN from Sony.
So, for the Inspire 3, in Cinema DNG mode, DJI say that the image is 16-bits, is it mean the Inspire 3 image is the same of the Alexa Mini LF ?
Can somebody from DJI answer this important question ?

I'm redo my question, simple;

How much colors depth, the inspire 3 can process?
4096 colors or 16384 colors or 65536 colors ?
If the 4D-8K will process up to 65536 colors, I'm a buyer 100%.
If not this number, I will probably choose the Sony Burano.
To get the film look, you have no choice to work with a real 16-bits (65536 colors)

This thread is about the X9-Air from the Inspire 3, not about the X9 from the 4D.
So answers might be different due of being a different camera.
Best ask your question in a 4D forum

Hi sansoucypierre, the DJI Inspire 3 could process 16 bit of color depth in DNG mode.

That means one channel can process 2 to the power of 16 colors. Since there are three channels of RGB at the same time, and each channel could process 65536 colors, the actual amount of colors that can be processed are 65536 to the power of 3, which is 281474976710656 colors. Hope this could help.

Message for Thor...

Can you tell me if the 16 bit of color depth is working at any FPS.
Someone say that it's possible that the camera change to 12 bit at above  30 FPS.
So, what is the value for 24FPS, 30FPS, 48FPS and 60FPS.
I feel that more than 30FPS the camera can not manage a 16 bit of color depth.
Can you check this.

So what's the verdict? Sounds like 8.1k 23.976 fps Is 23.976 Cinema DNG will give you the best quality image given the right settings and ND filters.

Yet I have seen the admin say more than once that ProResRaw is higher quality but I don't know about your experience with prores raw, I have a lot of issues with it especially when shooting 60 fps.  Cinema DNG appears a lot sharper to me coming out of this drone

Still no answer from DJI.

I think DJI doesn't really want to talk about this. Marketing reason. :-(. Personnaly, I don't believe 8K at 60fps can give a 16bits image.
It's look logical, that the  4K 23,976fps, should be the best quality image you can get from the drone at CDNG bcs if you shoot in prores raw
the rolling shutter goes to 33m/s. But at 30fps and less it's drop at 15m/s.
