After pressing 'Stop' in 'ActiveShots Manual Mode' the Dji Mini 4 Pro Forward/Backward stick controls appeared to become reveresed, this happened on two occasions, the control sticks were in Mode 2 (default)

The drone was ahead of the subject travelling backwards on each occasion, knowing what to look for I'll try and reproduce this possible fault scenario.

Actually resolved the question.

Pressing "Stop" cancels manual tracking but the mode remains in "Spotlight" the Spotlight icon is obscured by the red "Stop" icon, so it was easy to miss in bright sunlight.

In Spotlight mode maneuvering controls are limited giving the illusion of a stick control problem.
So really this is a none-issue, the answer is to press "Stop" followed by "Spotlight"
