Sorry for your loss. Are you flying over hill or mountain? The picture said so. In that case there could be many things that could obstruct the communication between rc and Mavic that cause signal lost. I suspect that you did not set it to return home at current altitude so it may decend to default of 20 m. or 66 ft, reference to the takeoff level, on its attempt to return to home.

I doubt it. Ferrous (iron-based) alloys tend to be heavy and affect compass readings, so there isn't a lot of (magnetic) metal in the Mavic for your magnet to attract. However, if you have Care Refresh or believe the crash occurred because of a warranty issue you might actually be financially better off paying someone to retrieve it even if they have to dive for it since it's probably worth $700+ dollars to you to get it back. Of course, that's only assuming it can be safely retrieved, because it's certainly not worth risking anyone's life over.

I'm sorry to hear that, but yeah, geese -- especially those of the Canada goose variety -- tend not to be very timid, at least where Mavics are concerned.
