Hi Skip,

For general corrections Final Cut is great.  It can do pretty much everything you need.  As you say, DaVinci is ultimately much much more powerful but harnessing that power takes commitment as well as a clear idea of what you want.  

So sticking with Final Cut  and getting the most out of it is a good idea.  You'll know if you have outgrown it and if this happens, the skills and eye you will have developed will serve you well with DaVinci.  

Maybe get a couple of plugins to help out.  The NEAT plugin has great noise reduction, which helps on some shots.  It also has an interesting 'gel-like' quality that I really like. It somehow pulls all the colors together and makes the shot more filmic.  

The other is a set of LUTs that work with FCP-X (if you're using FCP-7 ignore this.)   The LUTs give you a great starting point and different looks when you shoot in LOG.

Thanks a lot I also sent you a note about filming for your friend in Modesto or Milpitas. Would love to help out...  I also have an interesting project where I am flying a shirt in to Steve Wozniak on stage…. Don't know if you have ever towed anything with your Inspire but it is interesting. Here is a clip when we were figuring out how.
