I received low battery warning at 30% (It's where I had it set) and at 29% it went into RTH mode ( working as expected ). Returning home all is well and then for 2 mins the bird stopped and hovered  11 times in a 2 min period wasting ALOT of batery power. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this stop and go in the RTH mode?

That looks like Landing Protection, and Precision Landing doing their job when RTH is used. It gets a mention on page 17 of the manual.

Regardless of your settings if you encountered conditions that use a lot of power consumption you can get low battery warnings even with 60% battery left. The software is designed to be conservative and get your drone home before you have a loss of power.

That what it is expected to do. I have had it hover for a minute or so and it landed with no problem.

It still had more than 10% battery and was still 900ft from set home point so it shouldn't have been thinking about landing yet....

It would look as if the Landing Protection was active, but AFAIK it shouldn't be active in Low Battery RTH, only in Smart RTH...

It wouldn't have been losing GPS signal would it ? At which point it would just hover, as it wouldn't know where to go.

10% is the absolute minimum before it forces to land. You can't fly till 2 or 3%.
Also that would drain the batterie almost to zero which you need to avoid. Batterie can be harmed.
8% is the minimum. Batteries should not be drained any further.

How far were you away from your home point? Maybe other things played in the factor, wind weather maybe that's why you lost 20% battery trying to return home.

I checked that also, 3mph at that altitude. between 1100ft to 900 feet from home point it would stop hover move a few feet stop hover 11X's. battery went from 29% to 14% in the 2 mins it was doing this. Guess it was just a fluke. I know I won't put much trust in RTH anymore. It's a perfect case for LOS.....

I have no issues with my RTH, I sent mine about 2km out, press the RTH and it came back hovered then landed precisely. How high do you have it set to hover before landing? How high were you flying?

Wasn't flying towards the Sun ? Reflections being seen as objects by the avoidance system ?

Suggest you read this thread.  I had critical low battery message at 35% and over 2500 feet distance at over 1600 feet altitude.  I got my bird home at over 50mph.

I would say that the obstical avoidance was seeing the bright glow of the sun or some other reflection, as an obstical and brought the drone to a halt. I have had this happen on several occasions, to the point where i had to turn the drone sideways and fly home using the right stick, so as to keep the front avoidance from seeing the sun or reflection

My vote goes to 13 + 17
I also have has some strange issues even when the sun is standing high. That's the time one learns to disable the so called intelligence in a hurry and take control ...

Just an update of sorts......I have had RTH stall a few times since and I believe that it is the sun interfering with the obstacle avoidance system. My replacement bird is even more sensitive than the original was.
