Just got the ITElite kit installed on my Phantom 3 today. I was pretty impressed with this kit. To be honest, I did not have high expectations, but it nearly doubled my distance from a flight in the same location yesterday. You can check out my video if you would like to see the flight. This is my first youtube video review, so don't be too hard on me!

Hi good review and video as well, for the first one ;-), I see you keep the controller antennas, I like that, I know you close your controller, but can you feedback us with the modification process?
Thank you

The process to modify the controller was not really that bad. There are some tiny connectors that you have to unplug/re-plug, so it helps to have a little experience with small electronics. I am going to try for more distance next time, as I still had full signal when I chickened out.
Here is a link to the DBS Mods tutorial from the Inspire controller. It is a very similar process.

There are 2 small casting marks on the inside of the controller. They are obvious. They are a perfect place to drill the holes for the ports. It is a 1/4" drill bit that is the correct size there. I chose to keep the original antenna in the controller because I did not have anything to plug the holes. I carefully zip tied the cables together and left them inside there, making sure they would not interfere with anything.

Yep,very true. I decided to leave them in, as I did not have anything at the time to plug the holes. This way I can't lose them if I decide to go back to the stock setup. The cables are zip tied together and tucked away where they cannot interfere with anything.

I see that they will do the mod for the customer for a fee.  I think I may have to pull the trigger on it.  Does the new antenna fold or something to make it fit into a regular case?  I have 2 cases for the p3p and would hate not to be able to use them.   Im sure some sort of modifications would have to be done.  Whats your thoughts on it?

It is actually a quick release mount on the back. Spring loaded, just pull it apart and it pops right off the controller so you can store it in your case somewhere. The cables unscrew easily so it shouldn't be hard to find a way to make it all fit.

Dude. My fingernails are gone. RTH when the app crashed!! I too modded my controller and went the same distance. I believe that is about as far as I am comfortable with flying on the present battery tech. Right at 3 miles is my max! I landed at about 22%. Hats off my fellow daredevil brother!!

Do you guys feel that the coaxial cables that come with the mod are durable enough to be taken on and off repeatedly?  The reason I ask is I have read that some feel that they are low quality and feel like they can easily get messed up.  Might be an earlier version they are referring to also.   I will have to take them off and on a lot for transporting so thats why Im wondering.    Thanks

The FPVLR coaxes are VERY sturdy. Can't vouch for anything else. I have a backpack that allows it all to stay plugged in during transit but I don't forsee any issues with the coaxes. I am using boosters which have slightly smaller cables. The antenna coaxes are twice as thick.

15,000 feet under those conditions is what I get stock.    What I'd like to see is it tested in the middle of a neighborhood with houses and trees and some obstructions.   What you are getting is what I get all the time.   I can't see breaking my remote open to maybe add more distance when battery is a limiting factor at this point.

Under these exact conditions (in the same location) the stock setup only gets about 7500 feet. At that point I lost all signal and the Phantom went into RTH. It's up to you if you want to buy the kit or not. I'm not trying to sell these things, just offering my opinion and experience. So unless you have actually been to this location and flew, your numbers do not mean much to me. Distances vary heavily from one location to another, with a ton of different possible variables.

The limit with stock is just over 5k here. No houses, in the country with very tall trees. The battery is definitely the limiting factor here. The stage one antenna mod will max out battery range in about any condition I have found. (to my comfort level anyways) The stage 2 kit (with boosters) is really helpful in the city but has little to no value without a longer range battery. Now, don't get me wrong, the signal is ROCK SOLID with both the stage 1 and 2 between the 9 to 15 k range with pretty much all obstacles taken into account. I have gone out to about 18 k with my stage 2 without signal loss before I chickened out. It took around 18 minutes straight there and straight back and had 14% on landing. I will NEVER do that again. A strong head wind and I might would have not made it back.

I practice over land just like in the video.   I once went out and instead of coming back at 15,550 it sat there for a few minutes.  When it came back online, I was at 13% battery and got it in to land.  But I had to hold it up the last 200 yards.     I like performing tests in these locations.  Makes it easier to just land it if I need to and go get it.   Having a trackimo, makes it nice too.

You must have gotten lucky and are located in some sort of signal vortex

I think I might connect the stock ones back up for a video through my neighborhood. Then hook up the DBS kit again to see if it improves. However, it seems like you are golden and wouldn't need any boosters at all!

Also, I agree about the GPS trackers. They definitely help provide a little peace of mind!

Yikes. Yeah, my fear. I lost video once on the stock setup, still had green on the remote but app went "grey". I pushed rth and it initiated. I was pretty high up and out. Well, needless to say, those were the worst 6 or 7 minutes of my life while I waited to hear those bees coming back. I wish rth was a little faster on the return. I didn't have a reconnect until it was pretty close. Probably like 4 or 500 feet.

i got the DBS itelite antenna as well and the advert is right! the battery is the limiting factor now .Love flying out at range and I find I'm not constantly monitoring the signal strength as I use to on these long range flights.
It just stays full bars and man I don't work for dbs and are not affiliated with them but I would highly recommend the antenna to all.Just fing love it.
