So I bought the Extension Arm and the Unversal Mount so I could attach my Rode VideoMicro and phone on the Osmo. The parts do work well but the whole assembly becomes unwieldly with a large footprint and worse, it takes forever to put together and take apart. So I decided to come up with a solution that takes up less space and most importantly, takes less time to assemble.
An afternoon's work with Sketchup and my 3D Printer yielded this. It slips on to the phone clip and is hinged to rotate almost 180 degrees. What used to take minutes to assemble now takes seconds. I did use the cold shoe that came with the universal mount only because I can't trust a printed ABS plastic cold shoe to be sturdy enough to hold bigger and heavier mics. The only issue left is that my VideoMicro still picks up that blasted fan noise.
