It just dawned on me that an observing hood from folks like dark skies apparel might be a solution for glare.  They even make a white hooded garment for solar observers that might work well for drone operators in the summertime.    http://www.darkskiesapparel.com

As an alternative solution, I've been using a DIY cardboard sunshade for months; it works well for me. As the photo shows I clip it on the tablet with self-adhesive velcro strips. A commercial shade which uses a similar angle to avoid self reflection is the Hoodivision PadHat. The main issue is not glare, but rather reflection.

Hey that looks just like the home made hood I use.  I even have the velco on glued to the bottom of my iPad.  You are correct that the only hoods without glare are the ones that work at an angle.  Straight down view is more like looking in a mirror.  Anything bright, like the sky, will be reflected back.
