While flying model aircraft for hobby or recreational purposes does not require FAA approval, all model aircraft operators must operate safely and in accordance with the law.

I wish that all operators follow the rules!

And they are not deputizing us at all.  I am a phantom and Inspire pilot and full time Officer and I can promise you that the FAA is not giving us, nor do I want, any federal deputization.  They are just asking for help as they are overwhelmed and only getting busier!

when are they asking you to "bring in" the FAA?

Our department has not made mention of any of this and probably will not as North Carolina has state laws governing UAV use.
