I am experiencing similar issues.  Sometimes my app is loading here maps and sometimes for no reason I get Google maps.  What is going on?

Google all the way ... I really do think DJI should consider this has an impact on the quality that is linked to the brand.

DJI Is a gold digger to apple, but they hate android, lol google is better and bigger than apple.

Google Maps is the right way, but Here Maps really sucks. I tried to use here maps, but doesn't work very well. I don't can zoom in or if i do it, than i see little smileys. Please bring back google maps!

Has anyone else noticed Google Maps returning on their device? I just noticed this for the first time this morning. I'm pretty sure that this just happened in the last few days; though it's possible that I just didn't notice until now. I'm using a Nexus 7 tablet (2013) and it's running Android v6.0.1with the DJI GO 4 app v4.0.5 (213-gpTablet).

Just looked at mine and it's still showing Here

Mine switched back to Here on the very next flight after updating the Google Maps local cache.  :-(

Mine always starts as HERE but often when i launch the map part the app crashes and when i restart the go app4 it runs google.
YES i want google but not the app crashing

Litchi uses google maps and Is far superior to DJI go in everyway so spend a few bucks and forget about here maps forever. And we're did here maps come from? I never heard of them.

The Windows Phone uses Here maps ... and I wonder how that product is now doing ;-P

Google maps for sure !  my old APM used that, and is far better quality to work with,   there is a very serious point that the OP mentioned futher up this thread,  and that was does a quality company really want to link itself to rubbish to save a few $,  if DJI were my company i would be sending my people to  Google to arrange the best price for the licence, not removing it and putting some half baked excuse for a map on my product !   after a while of doing this your product becomes a pile of rubbish with it, the product is only as good as its weakest link, and if there are many weak links !  guess what !

Nothing like a $2000 piece of equipment using a 2 cent API.  Additionally, Here Maps may be 'Here' today and gone tomorrow.  
The company is made up of no less than nine, yes nine owners, including a 15% stake by Intel.   Auto manufacturers Volkswagen, BMW and Daimler own about 55% with the remaining 30% or so split among several other management groups.  My main problem with the company is their legacy.  The company, formally known by several other names, appears to have been founded in 1985.  That's 32 years in the navigation business and well, you see what you get.    Hard to tell what kind of infrastructure they are running on but I did find they use software defined networking via a company named Cloudflare to distribute their services.   

Why a industry leading company, DJI, would make this horrible decision and risk loosing market share I can't understand.  Even if it is about money, the cost of support and drop in customer satisfaction will certainly cost more than they save.   The service is designed more for the automotive industry and predictive analytics.

They are testing HereMaps but using GoogleMaps as a backup - would be my guess.  

I assume you all know that Google Maps is not available in China (unless you VPN through the Great Firewall of China)? Guess where DJI is based...

TBH, haven't really looked much at my map in DJI Go; not even sure the provider is.

Where I live the Here image on the DJI GO 4 app is dated 2014, the Here image online is dated 2011 and Googles image in Google Earth is dated 2007!
The resolution on the DJI GO 4 app is also higher than on line and the google image.
So I'll stick with the Here images for now thanks.

Loosing Time if you wait for dji Answer.....

Not really fussed. Maybe DJI were concerned about Googles basic lack of privacy morals. Don't use Google maps at all on any of my devices.

Come on DJI protect your brand, start listening to your customers (Google Maps)

Thats weird Ive been on google maps since I switched from Android to IOS a month ago, I did like the ability to cache maps for the entire state so no need to go on line with droid

Here Maps is really out of date, and the resolution is UNUSABLE.... you can't see sh*t on that....

Hello, did I miss something?
I opened my  DJI GO4 - I see Google Map.
I compared this card to the map in the Google Maps app - the same!

Here maps are totally unusable in my location, all I see is a pixelated mess, I am unable to zoom in to check my location. I must be viewing a 15 square kilometre area.

My flight logs are useless and I am reluctant to fly now

My location is approx 90 miles NE of Beijing, I am basically seeing no detail and no satellite view while flying

Here maps is awful for my location.. you zoom all the way in and everything's blurry..
Google maps you can see all the details.. much better Res satellite data.

Google maps are way more useful.   Only reason i can think for DJI to use HERE is to save money on API costs with GOOG

google is blocked in China, so does google maps. DJI Is a Chinese company. I live in China, so happy with HERE, because google maps are blocked

are you suggesting DJi are incapable of developing a toggle so users can be pick?   or how about using gps to determine where you are and switch google maps on if you are not in a place called china.. use other "approved maps" if people are in china..

here maps even in my location is TRASH!  and i usually dont care cause i dont use the maps that much i use them as reference..  but streets are missing, sat view is useless since entire blocks are missing in some locations, not kidding you on that.   other things too, like my GF today was flying and she couldn't understand the maps from her location she took it today.  because they displaying wrong street names and some missing names all together.. and she is newer than i am to this and she was flying my mavic with out me helping her, that could have possibly ended badly..

also if they use the official google app APi its free for both iOS and Android!  and yes the API support offline maps for BOTH systems, android and iOS.  if dji is using web version of the API it coss money and only reason i can imagine dji wants to use web version is to monitor its users...since you can hook into the web form externally..so as i see it if DJI refuses to impliment google maps native API, they are basically admitting to wanting to spy on us..

Here Maps i think is free to use for Dji but Google Maps is not free ... I have a taxi company and Google has asked me $ 200 a month to add some layers with taxi stalls
