I was out with the P4P today.
Since having video lag etc. often on the K1 tablet, I thought I give it a try with my Google Pixel XL phone (Android 7)
Bad idea!

I managed to go quite some distance over a river, I was standing next to it on a dike.
No signal problems. Just as I turned around the app crashed.
I restarted the app and continued to fly home.

When I checked the flight at Air Data I realized that upon restarting, the Go4 app automatically set a new homepoint - at the AC, over Water!
I'm lucky I didn't rigger RTH. The drone would have gone for a swim.

Since multiple app crashes are being reported, there should be an option in the app:
"Do not record homepoint automatically"

My suggestion:
IF THE APP CRASHES, DON'T RESTART IT! Trigger RTH on the remote!
If you are flying over water or other terrain where you definitely don't want the drone to land - that might save it.

See top left in the image:
It says "H" for homepoint at the moment where the app was back up working.
My actual homepoint was to the right at the bottom.

You can also fly the aircraft perfectly well using the sticks. Just because the app crashes does not mean you have lost control of the aircraft.

That's really ****** up.

Can you use Litchi yet for the P4P?  If so, I would give up on Go.  That's BS.

Go crashed on me today on my P4P using DJI's built in screen, so it's not the device it's the app that's the problem. Like all other software the programmers are often in such a hurry to release new updates to take care of bugs that they don't take the time to make sure their fixes haven't introduced new ones. Most of the time it seems they do and sometime they are worse than the ones fixed.

I haven't tried Litchi on the Pixel XL.
I tried it on the K1. It was more stable than the Go app (at least it didn't crash) but still had problems like video lag etc.

Yes - but I'm not talking about stability or lag.  I'm talking about Go giving you a new home point in the middle of your flight without your input.  That's what is BS.  That won't happen with Litchi.

Thanks, Zamboon!

Meanwhile I' think my advice is not right.
It appears that after an app crash the initial Home Point recording is gone so the system records a new one.
Stupid enough it records it at ACs position, not at RCs. So triggering on the remote wouldn't bring it back to RC.
I was thinking that the RC records the home point somehow in itself ;-)

Besides a flaw in the app a reason for recording at AC could be that the P4P RC has no GPS.
I always thought it does. This post makes me think it doesn't:
http://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=redirect&goto=findpost&ptid=58311&pid=453914&fromuid=583619
I know the RC of the P4P+ does have it.
Still - my phone running the Go app has GPS and the app should have known where it is.

As I restarted the app and it connected quickly I was able to fly home.
According to the manual I had 13 seconds for it:
"Failsafe RTH will be automatically activated if the remote controller signal is lost for more than three seconds.
The aircraft will plan its return route and retrace its original flight route home. The aircraft will hover for 10 seconds
at its current location. When it regains signal connection it will wait for pilot commands."

I suggest you switch to Litchi.  I also had numerous problems with DJI GO and after trying Litchi, I have not had any.  Anyway, I tried to update to latest version of DJI GO and it informed me that it would not run on my iPad maxi.  I had just been flying with it but the new update would not run.  So, again, try Litchi, you'll love it.
