New battery for phantom 22 arrived but it says I need to upgrade the central board firmware to version 1.0.2.7 or above through phantom assistant before using the battery
I have no idea where to start

Just to verify, you purchased the battery for Phantom 2, right?
You need download the assistant on our website here: http://www.dji.com/phantom-2/info#downloads
To upgrade it, please check the instruction in manual: http://dl.djicdn.com/downloads/p ... _Manual_v1.4_en.pdf

I now have Phantom assistant on my computer but it is not picking up the phantom when I connect it.  On the app on my phone it is saying battery error as this is a new battery I dont know what to do please help

Have you ever tried to restart the aircraft and check again?
Could you please upload a screenshots for battery error and assistant display?
