I was flying, I switched from DJI Go App (on my iPhone 7 plus) to "DronePan" App. A DJI-compatible app made to shoot 360 degrees pictures.
Some 5 minutes later I went back into DJI Go but the remote control was not responding anymore, with a big "JOYSTICK" on the
led display. Dji go working but no response from remote sticks. I asked for a Return-To-Home from the DJI Go display, then canceled
the auto return and... the control was back into my hands.

I tried couple of times, same problem. DronePan sends remote controller into a "Joystick mode" with no response.

Is it a DronPan flaw? Or a DJI SDK flaw? What does "JOYSTICK" on the remote led display mean?

I can only say that I have made the exactly same experience: Dronepan crashed, joystick mode, RTH, pause.

my guess is that the app switches over to controlling the drone through the phone because it cant send RC input signals to the drone. the same as if you were flying the mavic via wifi using your phone/tablet. Should be fixed so when you leave the dronepan app, it switches back to RC

I noticed the same 'joystick' mode during a litchi panorama shoot yesterday.  Litchi ended up hanging at the end of the pics, so I just threw the rc into sport mode for a second, and back to pmode, and boom, problem solved.  Give that a go if you're in a pinch.

I've forwarded this to the engineers, I think it's a Dronepan thing.
Have toy tried Hangar 360, it's a pretty col app and totally free.

As far as I know Hangar 360 is only available on iOS.

This is something DronePan has to deal with.
Joystick mode is a special mode that is used by 2rd party apps to send commands to the aircraft without the RC. It may be that DronePan doesn't turn off this mode after the shot is done.
You can manually turn it of yourself, when the shot is finished, from P to Sport and back to P quickly. Then the aircraft will switch to the RC taking control.

lol.  Why would you 'respond' to my post about joystick mode, even after I already said to use sport mode/p mode... telling me to 'see post above' when I already said the sport mode/pmode first?  Makes no sense.  Waste of time.

It was explaining the reason and it's not DJI's issue.

Thanks.

Once again DJI-Ken is quick and very useful.

I will give a try to Hangar 360

Same to me with DronePan on IOS. Only RTH and then out, gained control. Sent a question to DronePan.

I have the Hanger 360 app. 4 times it has done this to me in Pano mode shots. It gets to various points in teh imaging and then the app crashes and my iPad (Air 2) goes to its home screen.  you don't seem to be able to regain control with the Hanger 360 because once it set my Pano point in the Pacific Ocean (i am on the border of South Carolina and Georgia) and once at Stonehenge (yeah, seriously, Stonehenge).

I am in the 1.03.0900 version. It was doing this with the 1.03.0800 thing too.  There was note on not flying the Mavic with Hanger 360 at this point.   So it looks like Dronepan, Litchi and Hanger 360 are all doing the same thing. That sport mode on off thing was all that would work for me too. I had control of my gimbal, but not the aircraft.

I bought the Hanger 360 for its wide capabilities. I may downgrade to 1.03.0700 and see if that works.
