There is something weird with my Mavic mini. For any mini owners you will now that in the bottom middle of the screen that there is an icon indicating where the drone is positioned in regards to what way your controller is pointing, it never works and it always tells me the drone is behind me! Thanks

What device are you using? It all ties into the device compass so the issue is there.

It's common.
The magnetic fields in the controller are deflecting the compass in your phone or tablet.
Recalibrating the compass in your phone or tablet (not the drone) might help.

I’m using the iPhone XR and it seems that as soon as I turn on the controller the compass locks in place and doesn’t move

Yeah I think it something to do with my phone compass I am using an iPhone X. But I don’t know how to calibrate the compass. Seems that as soon as I turn on the controller the compass locks in place for some reason and doesn’t move.

Google is really good for finding information.
It comes up with gems like this:
https://www.techjunkie.com/calibrate-compass-iphone-x/

Calibrate the phone compass while it's connected to the controller.

Make sure Location services in the DJI app settings in Apple Settings is allowed. Then go to Compass settings, make sure Background App Refresh is on and Mobile data etc. Open Compass to calibrate it that's all you need to do. Also worth noting if you lose compass while flying simply turn the remote and device upside down and back again and it will fix itself.

Place your mobile device the other way aroud in the RC clamps.

I had to to do this in the second FW update for the MM, it can work as you see.

the indicator gets its info from the mobile device compass.
Only the forward postion (90 left and 90 right forward of the RC) are presented.

Turning your mobile device 180 around in the RC clamps will turn the AI 180 degrees as well.

When i had my MM first i had my device with the cable connetor right side in the clamps, after FW update i must have the cable connector to the left in the clamps.

Well, just give it  try.....

Really? How is it that my 2nd drone with the tablet that has no internal compass shows the same display as my 1st drone with the Samsung phone which does have a compass? I tested both this morning and saw no differences at all in that display.

You would need a long cable for that I imagine? Crazy... it should know the orientation of the device.

i have to devices and both need a longer cable even if the usb port is to the left in the clamps.
So for me no problem to change position.

Not that weird, just open a compass app on the device and rotate it 180 degrees.
DJI software should have an option to select how to convert mob device compass data to the AI in the flyapp.

Note: mobie compass data is 90 degrees altered by DJI sw to show the correct heading.

It would be a rare tablet that doesn't have a compass sensor.
What model is it?

It's a SM-T290 Samsung Galaxy Tab A. The mfg specs for the tablet indicate no compass sensor and all compass apps I have tried say the same thing.

The mfg specs for the S6 shows a sensor and the compass app I am using works.

Perhaps the conditions in which I tested them are too constrained.

You are correct, that's a very unusual tablet.
Samsung have a couple of strange tablets in their range, including an older one that's probably the only Android tablet without GPS and the SM-T290 which has GPS but no compass.

Calibrate your Mobile Device ONLY after it is attached to the Remote Control.

Hi there, sorry for the late response.  When the flight telemetry is calculating the direction, it requires the mobile device's GPS and compass information. Please make sure these permissions are enabled. Due to the direction of the compass is not precisely accurate, it is recommended to calibrate the mobile device's compass before use. In addition, since the accuracy of GPS is easily influenced by surrounding buildings, it is recommended to fly in an open space.
