What is the Spark connecting too? WiFi? Is WiFi built into the Spark? Or am I using data settings

When I connect to the iphone the IOS settings says 'no internet' but leaves a check-mark beside the Spark SSID after I enter the password. The I go to DJI Go4 app and it says I'm connected. I registered the Spark and reset IMU settings and I can see the view from the Spark camera on my iphone. So I guess I'm connected. Same thing when I connect and link the RC. Says 'no internet connection' but it leaves a check mark beside the Spark RC after I enter password and says connected on the DJI Go 4...I also can see what the Spark camera sees on my iphone. But I can't take it out today because it's raining

What am I connecting too  

Yes spark is connected to its own wifi when using phone to spark. Using remote your phone is connected to RC , RC is connected by radio signal from remote to Aircraft.
