Must have set the focus on the court and blurred everything else around it.

That's not physically possible, at least not without a filter applied during post-processing.

When I view the photo, the trees are no more blurred than the stadium.

The corners of the shot are soft, like a blurred vignette. Open it large and zoom in a little and you'll see it then. If you can't see it them I recommend an optician

Okay, I see what you mean. Another possibility, based on many years of photography experience, is the stadium being in a depression, the trees at the perimeter are much higher than the field and thus lack of depth of field is the cause. To confirm whether there is or isn't an edge sharpness problem, the original poster should look at previous images or shoot another picture with distance to edges approximately same as distance to center.

well in this case is a WANTED effect in post production with lightroom ;) it gives just the main attraction of the picture :-)
if i show you original shot and lightroom you can see what i mean !!! Marty you are also right about stadium being in a depression.. but picture wouldn't give back same feedback so that is also part of my decision to blur borders of the picture !
