What is it about people that want to shoot or throw something at the drone?
We were shooting the Snake River outside of Jackson Hole, at Lunch Counter Rapid. We met up with some kayakers and rafters, traded info so they could see the footage later when they got home, and they jumped off the rock multiple times into the river.

You can see the boy with the helmet and red lifejacket at the beginning of the clip, something is in his right hand.  I later saw it was a grey rock.  Luckily I see him aiming, winding his arm back to throw it at the drone, which is almost parallel to him as it's over the river.  My drone would have been lost forever, as I was hovering over whitewater rapids.

I gave him a quick talking to, hopefully his parents were nearby to finish the job properly.

Here's the clip, at about 44 seconds I see him aiming for it.

I would have given THE PARENTS a quick talking to,.  "Do you have $2000 in your wallet?  No?  Then get control of your kid before his actions cost you a trip to court."

To be fair, the adults were all cool and would not have let it happen if they saw it. They were all jumping off or already in the water, so they couldn't really see. In the next clip, they are asking me how much I'm into it, things like that. The atmosphere stayed nice and casual.

It's lucky that the drone was retrieved finally. A good lesson that pilots should keep away from spoiled kids.

I flew over some kids playing baseball one day, and I heard the kids say 'look a drone!' and then they proceeded to try and throw baseballs at it. It was up too high so the baseballs weren't even close, but still, the instinct was there. Maybe it's just a kid thing.

i think it is...  adults i spoke to that are upset about it make a point verbally..  the few kids i had to deal with all tried attacking the drone first.  thats one reason i love the mavic, smaller size makes it harder to hit..  i was over a river today and some kid in a boat with his parents tried to spray my drone but i was 75 feet up so his water gun failed to get even close but i saw it from the shore line.. i wish the parents were closer so i could have asked them to correct his behavior or be prepared to pay me $1000 for damaging my aircraft.

For sure. I mean it's no different than a child throwing a rock at your car right? Any half decent good parent would scold the child and pay for the damage.
