My spark is only 3 weeks only brand new only 16 flights. I had a gimbel motor overload warning. It stopped but when I got it off the ground the camera was would point straight down. I could move it up with the controls but would go back down. After resetting the spark, the app and the controller the gimbel was working. But I noticed the ground has a slant to it. I got it up 100ft and the entire herizon was slated. I got into the settings and adjusted the gimbel roll to 3.8 to get it straight but notice that the video isn't as stable moving from left to right.

Did you try to reboot your spark and see if the warning still here?
I would recommend you check your version of spark.If it is not the latest version, please update your drone first.

Did you try to calibrate IMU and compass before you take off your drone?
And you can set your Gimbal adjustment at 0.0 and try to adjust it when it goes wrong.

I have set the gimbel to 0 then calibrated the compass and the IMU (yes with the props off) this photo is with the gimbel set at 0.

Please try gimbal adjustment and you can adjust it from the range of +1.5 to -1.5 for most cases.  
And then you can see if the image is level or not.
