My Inspire 1 batteries are running at 110-120 degrees F during fight.  Any ideas what could be causing this?
I haven't flown it for a while and I hovered and did a few slow maneuvers (nothing stressful).  Battery temp was hot to handle and temp readings ranged from 100 to 120 degrees at various points on the battery.
No puffyness.  Looked normal.
They had been in a state of 25% discharge for storage and I charged them for the flight.

These temperatures sound about right. This is a record of one of mine.

Mike, the temperature of the battery is normal, don't worry about it.

Thanks, everyone.  Seems like they are just running on the hot end of the normal range.  I was concerned because the max operating temp listed on the battery is up to 104 F.

I believe that is ambient air and not the battery itself

Mark, seems that you have rather boring winters, huh? How come you mainly fly during the summer?

For such a seasoned veteran as yourself, I'd expect all sorts of flight info :-) ...

Beautiful graph.

We have a weather station that's on Weather Underground next to where we always fly from. If the temperature is near 103º, we won't fly at all. The max operating temperature is simply the ambient temperature.

The aircraft definitely deals with slightly lower temperatures when it's up in the air, but if it is in direct sunlight, the temperature of the various parts is bound to heat up more than the outside air temperature for sure.

Now that you've brought this up, I'm curious if the 104ºF max operating temperature is also including 104ºF in direct sunlight. During the summer, it really seems like the direct sunlight (versus a cloudy day) is a significant impact, even when it is 104ºF both ways.

It does look like that, I hadn't noticed. I'm guessing that was from my Tb47, I normally only use it for setting up so it doesn't get much flight time. In the summer months, I guess I fly more so use all batteries.

Glad you like the graph.

Gotcha.

So you have like a "prep" set of batteries that you use for the BS work, flight/video adjustments, etc, and then when everything is ready, you switch batteries?

Fun.

batteries tend to heat up more towards the end of the flight and if you fly aggressively. In the tropics, the temps can go up to 130F
