My wife is a dragonboat racer. A couple weekends ago, we had perfect weather, so I brought out my Spark to film their late season practice.

Yeah, I used a LUT that was pretty ... bold. :-)  Maybe could have dialed it down a bit in some shots. :-)

Also, I went out and got some ND filters after seeing how blown out some of the shots were (the overhead shots of the boat).

Not sure if a ND filter will help you here.
That just lowers the overall shutterspeed.
It won't change the average exposure Spark wants.

If you adjust the EV compensation to -0.7 you should be better off.
