Can I take still shots while shooting video? if so, how?

yes, you can take shots, but they will be at video resolution.

Look on the right hand front of controller you will see 2 buttons one is a pause button the is for taking still shots its a 2 stage button first stage light press is to focus second stage hard press takes the shot

     The photos can be taken while the video is being recorded if the firmware is up-to-date.  You will hear the shutter click sound effect and the video will keep on rolling.  Look for the recording indicator after the shot before you try another one.  Also, only one .jpg will be shot at a time.  Nothing larger than a .jpg.  This supplements what Antonio and Hellsgate have written.
