Just got my spark and only flights have been done are in the house using my Note 8. I have been reading horror stories about Sparks just flying away and not nervous about wing the Note 8. Was going to try using my Tab S3 but that doesn't seem to get good feedback from users. Further reading seems that IOS devices seem to be the best match for the Spark. Looking at portability and price seems the ipad mini is a good bet. Now what version is the best bang for the buck? I know the latest verson would be the best but can't see spending the cash on a mini when all I'm going to use it for is the Spark.

iPad mini 4 is perfect, they’re is nearly always a good reason a spark will fly away.

Now I do have a 9.7in iPad 3 with retina display with the A5X chip but has the older 30 pin charger vs the lightning port so not sure if an OTG cable would work. Maybe I'll trade it for an iPad mini, it does is a 256gb model.

I've had a few successful flights using the current Amazon fire tablet 8, provided that I didn't need to have any mobile data connectivity (it's wifi only) and no GPS from the tablet itself. Note that I had to get the google app store running on it first to install the DJI Go 4 app.

Last year, after flying my P3S several times with my phone (Droid Turbo), I decided I wanted a larger screen. I picked up a Samsung Galaxy Tab E, which is pretty much a budget-friendly tablet that works through my cellular plan. It does fine with DJI Go, and seems like it's working with Go 4, though I haven't actually flown my Spark with the tablet yet. My wife ordered the Mavmount tablet mount for my birthday, so the next time I go out to fly, I'll take the tablet and see how things work.

How old is the iPad? Does it use a lightning connector or 30 pin?

I use a Samsung A6; they're cheap, but can still handle the app just fine.
But I do use a otg cable; seems to have hardly any impact on the on the tablet it'self.
The only real lag I ever notice; is when I push range, but that's not the devices fault.

So far I've flown twice with my Galaxy Tab A with no issues. I'm also connected to the RC via OTG cable. Will have a 5th Gen 9.7in iPad here this week to test out too.
