Hey all - I am new to flying drones and recently received my Spark for Christmas. After reading the forums about flyaways and such, I am terrified to fly the Spark much higher than 15m and left it got out away from me more than 100m.

My question to the forum is, what distances do you fly your Spark at? I see some amazing footage, which leads me to believe in ideal conditions the AC flies well at 60 - 80m altitude.

I’m comfortable with flying 1.5km away...have 60+ flights with no problems....your confidence will come as you learn spark ....with regular calibration and pre flight checks your confidence will grow..I fly over water with no hesitation

I fly up to 400' high and maybe 1/2 mile away.
Bottom line is I keep it within VLOS at all times. Which is sometimes difficult, as it is very hard to see sometimes.
I have about 300 flights on it and have no problems. Sometimes the app crashes, but still have complete control with RC.
(I never fly by phone)

120 meters height and 1km distance for me - with ideal weather. I fly in the desert usually.

I am curious as to how far out you can fly with your phone and also, does the Spark come back if it gets out of range?

I am flying off the RC as well. I have never flown drones before and the. Reading about flyaways made me nervous.

I am sure as my confidence builds I will fly farther and higher.

I did notice maintaining VLOS is difficult given the small aspect ratio of the Spark.

I really appreciate everyone’s feedback and look forward to learning to fly.

With phone is limited by the App to 100/50 if I remember that right
And it just stops in the air 'max flight distance reeached'
Had that once on 1250, after I did set the max distance to 1250m

I am a new pilot, but besides the point, the furthest I have flown is around 1500 feet away and 700 feet up. I feel like as I gain more confidence I will try and fly further.

Wave, you live in United States, right? And United States supports FCC certificate. When the aircraft is connected to DJI GO 4 directly, the maximum altitude is 50 m and the maximum distance is 80m. Here is the image transmission range of FCC when you fly your drone with RC:
