I state that putting your smart phone or tablet in "airplane mode" will cut off the cellular and Wi-Fi signals. I went to fast, had other things going on. Airplane mode shut down your Cellular and Text function. The Wi-Fi is still alive. You should drop the Wi-Fi when using a cable connection as it is not needed. The Wi-Fi is necessary with the Phantoms and smart phones and tablets. Sorry for the mistake on my part.

I will have to check that. Althought the point that I was trying to make is that it is present and some thing that most of us would never give it a second thought.

Airplane mode just shuts down the Cell Sites, no cell service or Text Service. Everything else will still work.

Interesting, airplane mode kills all signal transmission for android devices.  Doesn't matter though, none of then cause any interference anyway but shutting them off may lower cpu load and reduce the heat/video lag problem for flying multiple batteries in a row on a hot day.

Yes, exactly. In iOS, activating airplane mode shuts off wifi.

It does, however, allow you to turn wifi back on without exiting airplane mode, in recent versions.

Dave, so the connection between my iPhone5 and Phantom is bluetooth to the Amplifier?

Dave "Airplane Mode" does not turn off the Wi-Fi. Think about what you are saying. If you did not have the W-Fi on then how would the extender/Amplifier work with no signal? I always fly in Airplane mode because it extends the range and possible interference from Cell Towers. It does not turn off the Wi-Fi. Go try it and let me know what you find?

I checked it before and I just checked it again. Turing on Airplane mode does turn off wifi. I checked it on my iPhone 6+ just now, not hooked up to anything, and then I took my ipad 2 mini and hooked it up to my Phantom2 Vision+ and in  Airplane mode it turns off wifi. The Phantom video was disconnected as soon as I turned on Airplane mode. The Phantom2 Vision uses 5.8 ghz to control flight and uses Wifi with the extender to see your downlink and control the camera.
The guys that fly with airplane mode on are the guys that fly the Inspire or the P3 that does not use wifi at all.
Maybe your airplane mode is set up different, but I do not think that is even possable. There is a setting to turn off cellular, maybe that is what you are talking about.

You do not even need to hook up to a Phantom to test this.
Just turn on your iPhone go to settings.

Go to Airplane mode and switch it on you will see the setting of wifi turn "off" immediately.

The Bluetooth and W-Fi will still work. On Apple Devices, I amanita sure about Android? I would imagine that they are the same?

On my iPhone 5 the W-Fi will stay on in Airplane Mode and the same with my iPad Air 2. on the Tablet I put it in Airplane Mode and it stays connected via Wi-Fi. I do this in the house because my Wi-Fi is a better connection in my location. My Tablet has Cellular which I have to pay for the Data time which is limited to 1 Gig. I have no idea why we are getting different results. Maybe the CIA has me marked?

Yes Dave, got to settings and enter "AIRPLANE MODE" That will shut dow Wi-Fi, Cellular, and Text. You will eliminate any Cell interference. If you want the Wi-Fi got to Settings and enable Wi-Fi and it will be back on with out the Cellular and Text (Data). This is true in IOS. I have no idea as to what happens with Android.
