I am excited to announce that connection will not be lost even if you are 501m with spark which is roughly 1600ft. I have tested in a closer distance and it is still safe but only the high velocity errors show up. what is your highest altitude with this bird?

I wonder how far the little bird would have travelled if picked up by a strong wind current at this altitude.........lol

I'd be more concerned if the little bird hit a glider or small manned chopper at that altitude. Anyway I'm not the FAA LOL but I know they monitor this forum...

You have no need to take any risk with other people’s safety, this is not a risk for you, coming on here to brag about it is a bit strange.

In the Czech Republic you are allowed to fly up to a 300m AGL which is really great when you need to take a picture of some mountain range ;).

100 feet or so.  I don't like pictures of land.  Landscapes, I think they are called.  Beyond 100 feet up my subjects are getting pretty small for it to be worth climbing higher.

Absolutely careless and dangerous.  Putting others lives at risk, for what? lousy footage?  The best footage my spark has gotten has all been under 150ft.

Exactly who’s lives are at risk here? Tell me exactly where I flew the bird. Do not assume mate. It keeps that arrogant brain of yours closed which in turn gives you a very limited view of the world.

I think it’s the fact that you are in manned aircraft airspace that puts others at risk, yes you may think that nothing will arrive in this airspace , but you can never be sure, most if not all contact between manned and unmanned aircraft have been in manned aircraft space, the more people publish their bravado and risk taking the more likely we will see more accidents. This will only bring more attention on people who partake in this hobby for all the wrong reasons, it’s your Aircraft your responsible for it and what you do with it, but I’m not sure you need to be publishing it.

Thanks for testing this and letting us know the outcome but this was very reckless and dangerous. At that altitude you are in manned aircraft's airspace. Even though there might be no aircraft around, at that altitude anything could be directed through that airspace such as small airplanes or helicopters. Sure the spark might be a tiny drone but an impact against smaller aircraft can put lives at risk. Please don't ruin a great hobby for everyone else because of your own ignorance and arrogance.

**edit**

..like Hallmark said

**Update**
I know we have all speculated on this flight without knowing the full details of the flight. There is the possiblity the pilot took off from the ground, flew over a structure that was 380m+ tall and continued 120m above that structures height. Remaining inside the FAA regulations.

Spark's limitation is the battery, if you use a parabolic reflector you can go up to 2km (with an unlocked Spark). Ascending and descending speed is really slow, you can change the parameter (if you know how) but in the end it won't matter because faster speed will drained the battery quicker. You can take a look at this video, there are lots of them on Youtube... people are pushing the Spark to it's limits. Play safe, always use Flightradar24 to check the sky before you launched your backyard rocket.

Peace.

Maybe you can turn off the motors when the spark is at the top altitude, and turn them on a few seconds later to perform a faster descent.

I would be afraid at that height that it might be involved in an alien abduction.........lol

Have you tried it? Drones has no wings, they don't glide without the engine running. It's too risky, I won't test it. Anyone who's not afraid to try it, bring an umbrella just in case.

That's actually one of my mission flying at high altitude - to capture footage of UFO. I have seen videos of UFO filmed with drones, I want see one for myself.

It's not real, it's CGI.

You should only use Spark for high altitude flying, Phantom-sized drones are too dangerous. Then again, you are more like to hit a bus on the road than a plane with a drone.

It is pretty stupid to seemingly advertise you are breaking the law on a public forum. Its like going on a shooting forum and boasting you've been firing a rifle at 45 degrees in the air and then not expecting people to get annoyed at you. Yes its technically possible to fly a drone to that height legally/safely, as it could be to fire a gun in such a manner, but they are exceptions to the rule and adding comments like 'I'm reckless' just adds to the doubt that you have acted legally. As mentioned these forums get hits from various agencies and stupid stuff like this gives ammunition to the authorities and killjoys that want to get drones banned from civilian hands.
