Does the base for the DJI Osmo Mobile 1 fit the Osmo Mobile 2?

No it does not

Here is a solution you may consider: Most Osmo accessories are not compatible with the Osmo Mobile 2. However, Osmo Tripod is compatible with the Osmo Mobile 2 and can be mounted to it via a newly installed mounting hole at the bottom of the gimbal.

If you still use your Osmo Mobile1, I saw a great tutorial that said to put the device into the base BACKWARDS, and the base then actually holds the Osmo Mobile 1 more firmly.  It does for mine.

Yes, it will fit the 1 base! I have the Mobile 2 and use my OSMO 1 base.

Debated but decided to get a mini tripod instead like the gorillapod or similar.  Can be used in different situations.
