Just wanted to know if this is a male dominant hobby.

Pretty much :-)  ... I doubt it's intentionally exclusionary.  Having worked in a female dominated industry for nearly 35 years ( health care )  I can safely say that any articulate competent person can and will thrive regardless of male interference (etc.) !!!

Yes, it is male dominated.  I think all of the model hobby is.  Especially with aircraft.  I would be shocked to see a 20 year old female college student with a scale .60 powered P-51 that she flew.

There is Dronegirl, or some such name, on youtube.  She commented on my kayak video and I checked out her Phantom drone videos before I knew anything about drones.

I agree, it is male dominated. We do have some female flyers around my area but few.

My friend Darcy is female and she heads up to Bear Mountain, N.Y. where she lives and captures awesome footage of bears congregating before the winters.

Fantastic!! Hope you enjoy it .  I’m very new at it .  My Spark had to be sent in for service .  I feel like my best friend went off to summer camp. I’ve been counting down the days for my drone to return.  Good luck with your new drone.

That’s pretty awesome.  Does she have her videos on YouTube?  would love to see them.

Yes, It is. I tried to bring in my wife and daughter into the hobby so I don’t get into trouble for spending too much money on gadgets but my trick didn’t work.

She has some of them on Facebook shared with friends but I don't think YouTube? I want to film when I take my trip to East Africa, on safari. I think the Mavic Pro flying over the Serengeti, filming Lions, monkeys, and Wilder-beasts would be a blast.

I don’t think they would allow you to use a drone on safari.  It sounds like a good idea but it could affect the animals normal behavior, it’s considered a wildlife sanctuary.  Enjoy your safari !!!

On its face they wouldn't allow it, but I know there is a lodging hotel in the middle of the safari park that people stay after a long day of safari. I'm sure you can fly little Tiny Whoops with cameras on the grounds, then maybe they would consider letting drones film the perimeters, only because I know they keep a constant lookout for potentially attacking wildlife?

Welcome aboard! To be honest, there are more male pilots appear in the Forum, but you'll see some female pilots now and then.

My wife had a go on the Spark but said she isn't really interested. My two year old daughter loves "flying" quads, though. I don't think I'll let her loose with the Spark....she's got an appetite for destruction.

My GF has had a go but gets scared she'll break it, think i'm gonna get her a little quad as they are the best practice as far as i'm concerned.

The reason I wrote "what about your spark" was a sarcastic comment to Davidmartingraf above who was talking about scaring lions and buffalo with his Mavic Pro.....

I heard from a colleague  for a African safari trip, they charge you $ 500 for carrying a drone !!

I heard that as well. The fines are pretty heavy, but I can definitely see why they're keen to stop drones buzzing the wildlife.

My Spark is sitting tight in the DJI box it came with. I also have my Mavic Pro that has been seeing a lot of action lately, what can I say the Spark and Mavic Pro are the best of both worlds, you get compact and capability versus power and performance having both drones, you really can't go wrong.

It was merely a joke suggesting that you have more disposable income than myself as a mere Spark owner who goes camping in the same country he lives in as a holiday!! ;)
It's an English saying I guess! It's non confrontational and said in jest this is not an insult
