Nice first video! Very well done. I also agree that you should record everything. I've gotten into the habit of hitting record either right after take off, or right before. I dump the footage from the aircraft after the day is over and that is when the editing (or deleting) happens.
As a new pilot, I have found that to be less distracting. I just record everything so i can just focus on the flight. I find myself visualizing specific scenes, so if i'm capturing something I'll try to fly in a manner that i want to appear on the video, but i'm always recording unless I have to stop to perform one of the quickshots.
@montfrooij's advice about smoothness is essential. You may want to look into turning the sensitivity down on your sticks, (and use cinematic mode) This will give you nice smooth motion. And if you have the time, even if you feel like you've got the shot, cover it again. You'll find that you see different things while in editing that you did not see in flight. having multiple angles/views/passes makes it much easier to create the end result that you want. (it makes it take longer, but the end result is what you're looking for)
I learned this as an amateur photographer. take as many shots as you can, and you'll have a higher percentage chance of getting what you want. One of the photographers that I admire a great deal told me to "always take shots. always be ready. take more than you need, so you'll have enough in post. with photography, once you are aware of the moment, you have missed the moment." i think it is similar with video, but in many cases (especially with UAV pilots) we are filming places instead of people, and the moments tend to last a little longer.
Enjoy! and Fly Safe!
