Hello Gene,
Yes, we recommend DJI GS Pro or Map Pilot to control the drone flight and obtain the required imagery. You can use our free photogrammetry/mapping software to generate low resolution results on your desktop computer. Higher resolution results and functionality is also available.

Mavic Air cuts off the coordinates in the Exif header. So you can't stitch the aerial photos to one mosaic. Because of that the placement of a single photo is also not precise. I am completely unclear why DJI implemented this artificial deterioration of the position quality (of the photos, not of the drone in general).
I can't speak for the Mavic Pro, just the Air.See this thread: https://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=145270

Thanks JP, yet I am wondering if any of the Mavic series can actually be used to collect the data accurately (using an app like Map Pilot)

We see clients using the Mavic Pro and most of them use Map Pilot or DJI GS Pro.. only draw back is the lower quality of the mavic camera. It will still work fine but has limitations.
Thanks,
