Why do people use the auto take off and auto landing feature !?
This seams crazy to mee ...

Taking of with your fingers on the sticks beeing in full control makes alot more scence ... And it's also alot easier to just push the left stick up than doing the push and swipe on the screen in the pilot app ...
Beeng in full control over the landing procedure (not using auto) makes even more scense!!!

I have been using auto landing and auto take off only once in 140 flights - just once for testing.

Yeah - I agree. I don't use it either. Just once or twice as a demo or to test it.

Never used auto take-off and only used the auto-land to test fail safe RTH.

I would rather be in control.  Too many issues going on with aircraft failing, flying off and doing its own thing.

I've been using auto take off and auto land. How exactly do you manually do it?

Ok ...

Start the motors by pushing the sticks down and center (same way as if you need them to do an emergency stop during flight).
Propellers will start spinning in low RPM ... now just push the left stick up, but don´t be to gentle with it ... you need to give it quite some input to leave and clear the ground level.

Landing ...
Just push the left stick down gently until you touch the ground ... then push it all the way down to kill the motors.

Practice in the simulator first !

I wish they would remove from the FW altogether - completely pointless.

I've never used it and experienced pilots certainly don't need it, but for the first time flyer that doesn't know what to expect on a first flight and has no feel for the sticks, it's a good idea. First time flyers tend to use too much stick and overcorrect, particularly on takeoffs and landings. And inexperienced pilots tend to confuse the right and left sticks during high pressure situations, like takeoffs and landings.  I'm guessing that's what happened in that infamous YouTube garage door crash.

I use the auto take off and auto land feature on every flight. I do keep my hands on the sticks for the entire take off process. One thing I like is that auto take off always sets the home point (I'm sure it works when you manually take off and corner the sticks as well). Another thing that I like is that auto land forces the gear to be completely down before it lands (I've seen guys land too quickly and park on the camera as the gear is still coming down). I understand the arguments brought up here, but I have never had an issue and I do like some of the procedural benefits that come from using the feature.

As an early member of this forum I've seen a large number posts from first-time flyers that started with an Inspire. It's led to some very expensive lessons for quite a few. That's why having the auto takeoff and landing is a good option to have. Even if experienced flyers don't need it or use it.

Interestingly, it can actually be dangerous if you aren't careful. I had one experience where I triggered auto takeoff by mistake while holding the Inspire. It spun up and tried to take off and scared the ¢%@& out of me.
