There is an article about some guy flying above parade and lost control of his drone -  does not say anything about what type but looks like Phantom- here it is

DO NOT FLY OVER PEOPLE... PEOPLE.

The new FAA regulations are pretty clear about it.  Not legal.  (This is an example of why it's not legal.)

The drone pilot is lucky he was not sued for negligence.

I think we need some vigilante action here. See a drone being stupidly used over people in a dangerous way.... wait for it to land then stomp the shit out of it so it doesn't fly dangerously ever again. People would smarten up in a hurry.

Just the kind of news we need!

"Don't fly near people" is fine, but overall, impractical...unless human beings and the interesting things they do together, and recording those interesting things for special memories etc...are never going to appear in these videos again.

However, some thought given to safety in structural design could help. No reason why there can't be soft pads surrounding the landing gear of future craft.

My own (informal) feeling on the matter is that people should not occupy more than 1 or 2% of the ground space below the drone. That way, the risk is in practical terms really very small, but at the same time allows for some beautiful photography in interesting urban areas, without drone pilots being limited to shooting fields over a remote farm. Just my 2 cents.

That said, flying over a *parade*...the phrase "asking for trouble" springs to mind...

An effective optical zoom on future drones, if that is possible without creating weight issues, could also solve quite a few of these problems. Then of course, "privacy" paranoia will get worse
