If you pull both to inner corners you can shut it down in air I thought.......
Maybe the battery was loose or not clicked in fully. Sorry for your loss, call them for sure and file a claim. They can look at the black box data and see what happened.
From your description. I assume it didn't shutdown with CSC, you can check your operation in flight record playback, and if possible sycn it to cloud thanks.

No I don't think it works like that... GPS altitude is not accurate enough. I read somewhere on here that in drops at a controlled rate until it can't drop any further then shuts down the motors. It controls (or should control) rate of decent but only uses sensors and GPS to tell it in can't drop any further so it must have landed.
I am sure that somewhere in the decent the sonar function kicks in to give it a reference to the ground. I don't know that for sure but it seems like it would be programmed to use that function.
IMO, It should not be possible to shut down the motors in midair without a big flashing warning you have to pro-actively click on at least once, if not twice, on the screen.
