I was trying to get a shot of lightning with the Air. Got a couple, but all of them is not 100% sharp. That said, there were gusts of extreme wind, and the little drone did wonderful.
Low light, high winds, and lightning. Not perfect, but impressed with the Air.

Thank you. To get lightning in a image is always a challenge. To get it with a drone, is awesome. I honestly did not think I would get even one lightning strike.

Hi.
I took the Air up, hovered about 30 meters or so from the ground, and just kept on pressing the shutter button. I got around 100 images, of which around 5 had lightning strikes in. I also have a short video with some strikes, but the wind really made it super jumpy.

I was actually standing in a field, but elevated. The lightning strike hits the hill, behind it, is a depression, with houses, etc. This is in the Capital of South Africa, Pretoria, so many buildings behind.
Had a interesting shot, where it struck in one place, and seems as if it came out from the ground, back into the sky. Will post it, but quality is poor.

I love severe weather. I hike in it, I go out when it hails, take photos, stand in the wind and smell the cordite.
Weather is cool. Love the rain, love the afternoon thunder and lightning we have in Pretoria in summer.
You should try it. Chances is bigger for you to get mugged on the Durban pier, flying your bird, than being hit by lightning.

I also do a lot of DSLR photography, and I honestly think I got lucky with this. It did help that there were several lightning strikes, in a short period of time.
Image quality is not that great, had to keep the ss up, ISO was also up. Grain and noise and poor detail in the darker areas, but still, lightning with a drone.............

Thanks. I pressed that button continuously, hoping that one of the images will capture something good.  I can say that I planned the shot, I set the drone up for it, but I do believe that was pure luck.

Nicely done! I usually can’t capture lightning with a normal camera (wrong direction, wrong moment or nothing to capture for minutes....). But be aware of lightning, at least in Europe, very strong gusts may occur even at 10-30 km away from the thunder clouds. And standing in an open field may get dangerous when the lightning starts coming near to you.
