Kase Wide Angle adapter reviews start coming from SEA users.

It looks quite OK.
Edge is sofe but not that much distracting.

I also odered one earlier but still has not shipped yet.
SEA users can pick it up from their local store which is nice for them.

I am looking forward to run some test when I got mine.

It seems I wouldn't need my diy mount adapter unless I need it as a Jimmy Jib.

I am pretty much ready to add this adapter into my ND filter case.

According to this Japanese vlogger, Kase show cased this adapter at CP+ (Japanese camera & photo show) which held in Feb 28th.
So I guess Kase is the one who developed this adapter and others are knockoffs.
Their suggested price for Japan was 2000 JPY which is about 20 USD.

Hi Tide!

Excuse my ignorance but what is SEA?

I’m based in the UK and finding it hard to find anywhere who stocks the wide angle lenses.

I noticed that Amazon here are offering a couple of variants but not the Kase one.

Does anyone have experience of using either of these?

Just wondering if the quality varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and if I should order one of these as I can’t get the Kase one?

Hi Tide!

Excuse my ignorance but what is SEA?

SEA stands for South East Asia.
(Sorry not being specific)

It looks like the original stock is released this Tuesday from the factory (may be in China?) and SEA stores got it stock and everywhere else has to wait to be shipped from the factory.
I can also see that Aliexpress also starting to sell this without any branding.

I first saw that Kase (their singapore website) is mentioning them developing this adapter some time ago.
I am not sure if it is originated from them or others are just copy of them.

At this moment looks like a few SEA or China users already got their hands on it and not much infomation on other brands.
Can not be sure about others build quality.

Hi Tide,

Thanks for explaining! Yes, I noticed that there are a number of “off” brand Wide Angle filters but only the Kase ones seem to have been reviewed or tested on YouTube so far.

Both of the ones I pictured (Ulanzi and no brand) cost around £15 and are shipping from China so I’m not sure whether to go for it and test them?

Yeah I also checked other brands but so far I was unable to find their proper product website, so I went with Kase brand.

I'm a bit OCD about distortions so I'll pass especially since I never vlog.  Even if I do, I would just put the OP on a short handle that put it 12" further away and that would be fine.

I think ALL wide angle lenses from different sellers are made by same manufacturer XYZ.
Search aliexpress.com and you will find a lot of them.

Yeah distortion is not preferable but sometimes wide angle can be a great option if you can not further back down.

Other concern is that it looks ND filter is not applicable to this wide angle adapter.

Yea, The gimbal motor is not strong enough to handle more than 1 filter at a time. Already tried and the stacked on filter will also limit the gimbal travel on startup and cause gimbal protection error.

Yeah my guess is that Kase developed it and comissioned to the factory in China to produce it.
And once the factory delivered the first batch to Kase, they run the second batch to create off brands.

Not sure if they deliveratly created knockoffs or Kase and factory had a shared production cost deal so Kase got the first batch and factory is permitted to run the second batch. Or it could be vice versa

Thanks for finding this Tide! It looks good, but does seem to lose a lot of clarity towards the side of the image? Also seems to go totally off-focus and not sharp nearer the end of the video (could just be me)? Would be interested to see some other real world tests if anyone has one yet?

Share us your experience when you get one.

Mine is on the way ... round half the world.
It's nice to get 100° instead of 80° ... but (thanx) it's no fisheye.
For smartphones and action cams I have fisheye till 235°.

That's pretty neat! No preferable since it would be distorted, but easier than also bringing a GoPro along to get the wide angle shots. Interested to see if anyone tests these lens.

It looks like the focus is shifted to the camera on the left at the end of video.

Great find Tide! Might just be me but I prefer the quality on that Ulanzi clip than the other adapters I’ve seen tested?

Also, no idea what is being said here (can anyone give a translation?) but seems to be talking about the edge softness...

It seems he is compairing one of his wide angle adapter for iPhone which is in similar size but has better edge cliarity.
If his speculation is right and there can be a OP wide angle adapter with better edge cliarity, would be good.
If in fact, there is some restriction (like weight restriction) then current wide angle adapter would stay as best can be done.

0:17 ====> Disappointed
0:26, 1:03, 1:19 ====> Calibrate/Startup gimbal before attaching  the lens to OP (don't attach lens and startup OP, the lens will clash OP!!! as it is much thicker than standard OP ND-lens)
2:06 ====> Undesirably VERY BLUR in outer range, and severe distortion (e.g. cabinet edge),
4:11 ====> the youtuber is gonna return it FOR SURE.
4:14 ====> Another key point is, it is NOT cheap (RMB108) vs RMB200 worth smart phone 6-pcs-lens-set, which is excellent in wide-lens part (with some distortion but clear in outer ranger & the Ulangi lens set is really old now)

I truly appreciate the tuber bother to do the test (& return it), so i don't have to
