Many thanks Dji Stephen, altough it looks very much like a river it is in fact a man made lake built in the 1950s by building a dam across the Petit Lay river.
You are quite right, it looks great from the air, the valley is steep and lined with trees making photography from the ground almost impossible, long live the drone

Early morning is often the best time to fly in calm conditions, I wouldn't say same about light at that time, depends what you need... well done Tolly and thanks for sharing ^^

Very true, the light was far from perfect but I was quite pleased with the shadow on the water

I went early in the morning as the lake doesn't have many access points and I wanted to be sure to have it to myself.

It is close to my house so I plan to film it in the autum when there is never anyone about and the colours are more interesting.

Hi ALABAMA, thats very nice of you to say, however all the heavy lifting was done by the little Mavic.
I hope to improve my picture taking skills with more practice but the Mavic makes it so easy to get a good position. I have wanted to take aerial pictures of this lake for a long time as physical access for a good photo is very limited.
I even tried a couple of years ago with my Kite aerial photographic system but failed due to the difficult winds (for a large elevator kie) caused by the steep valley sides, in comparison the drone makes it a joy!

Yes it certainly looks like a river at this point however it widens substantially closer to the barrage which is out of sight in the top left of the highest photo, I think it covers about 250 acres.
