I am previous Spark owner, and sold it due to poor range issues.     I am in a built up area but am next door to a reservior so can safely fly.

However flights in both Auto (5.8) and 2.4 both result in flights of under 100 meters!  (the start of the reserviour)  

With the spark I could reach 300-400 meters, so was hoping for 1000 meters with the Mini.

Disapointing as was expecting better things with the 'advanced' Mavic Air like wifi.

- there is also a really dangerous flaw, when the app resets mid flight, the return to home height resets to 15 meters!   Making the drone risky to fly!

Surely a wrong setting?

ok, it seems all of my 2.4 manual channels are poor!    Initial flight was on channel 1 .. I will be running test flights on each channel until I get improved distances.   

Just flew on channel 9 and reached 500m the same as my Spark, at least.

Will keep updating .. however correct channel setting will be very much area specific.

There are very few settings to change DM?  I am aware of having the flat part of the aerial facing the drone from my spark days.    It just seems that the wifi channels in my area are pretty well used!

TBH I am using two poor phones, IPhone 6 and Galaxy s6.

I will test on Huawei p30 pro and IPad, although I guess transmission is from controller not device?

A mate of mine had terrible reception issues with his Spark, even with OTG.   He was using some kind of Android tablet.   He switched to his iphone with OTG and got 800m without a problem.

I flew with 5.8 yesterday and had break up of signal at 630m so it’s pretty good, did try 2.4 but signal was bad.
Regarding resetting Rth to 15m, if you set Rth to 30m and turn off craft and RC then turn back on in your app it reverts back to 15m, however if you fly out and hit Rth you will see it rise to your preset of 30m, so your preset is set in the craft so you won’t get caught out, but app needs an update, dji said this would be sorted next week .

I took the Mini out to a few locations yesterday with new Huawei P30 Pro - (line of sight view, no obstructions)  The best I managed was 395 meters.     I will test the IPad mini at the weekend.
