Big Lonely Doug stands a staggering sixty-six metres in height and stretches nearly four metres wide at its base - making it the second largest tree in all of Canada. With scars on his trunk from anchor cables used to haul away his surrounding brothers and sisters, Doug stands proudly in cutblock 7190. Lacking the protection against wind once provided by neighbouring giants, Doug is susceptible to punishing Pacific storms - but this isn’t the first time Doug has stood alone. In 2011 Dennis Cronin, the forestry surveyor who by chance spared this monolith, noted that Big Lonely Doug was surrounded by relatively young 150-year old hemlocks that had grown back after hurricane-force winds raced through the valley, knocking down all trees expect the true giants “He’s used to the wind, so he’s got a chance”

Very nice photos of the old guy. That's an impressive tree, all right. You have to raise your RTH altitude around that one.
He must be getting on in age. I hope he can withstand another big wind.
Ha... so very true. RTH altitude was set to 100 metres
