A few days ago in a hurry to fly and forgot the landing pad at home There was a lot of snow in the forest

The gear do not interfere with the landing algorithm.

Useless! Front arms of mini is made from tiny plastic, adding such a long "arm" will increase forces in hard landings so if you want to brake mini arms-go for it

I think using a landing pad is way better.
First you clearly take off from a clean flat surface, second it helps with hoover and landing accurately, third it does not affect the mini aero dynamics and it will help with less resistance to wind.
The other thing is that is good to "plan" a flight and make people aware of your plan/decisions, a landing pad is a good starting point.
I also think it takes less time, since the "legs" need to be installed and uninstalled before each use.

Not sure if that was the case or they found it,  But they wanted to take off from a very muddy farmers field and it worked well.
