The FAA has announced 8 companies that have been chosen to implement RID. The news release can be found here. The companies are Airbus, AirMap, Amazon, Intel, One Sky, Skyward, T-Mobile, and Wing. They are the first eight and will be working on USS (in simple terms remote id through the internet). This will be developed over the next year or so. An end date has not been established and the design specs have to date not been released. It appeqars this is going to be "development as you go" (perhaps some sort of scrum, pure conjecture on my part).

As suspected, the list of companies is mostly heavy hitters andhave the hands in drone delivery or have hefty subscription plans to access their software. Not sure what this means in the long run but hopefully hobbyist pilots will still be taken care of. My guess is that hobbyist will get some reprensentation as there is a significant revenue stream in delivering USS generated remote IDs. I don't like it, but that is my guess.

BTW: I am glad AirMap is on the list.
