Now I have to take a driving license for my Mavic Mini.
It failed the C2 test in Sweden.
- DJI, how important is weight then?
New rules in Sweden on July 1, 2020

Here are the questions issued by the Swedish authorities:
1. Are you an individual or representative of an organization?

2. How old are you?
Younger than 16 years
16 to 17 years
18 years or older

3. Are you an operator?
The operator is responsible for how the drone is used.

it cannot say C2 on the box. There are no UA class markings on the mini...According to you mini is less than 4 kg and bigger than 900 gr??? Are you sure you read the table correctly?...if you look closely at the table you will see all drones less than 250 gr are C0.

To be honest, I am a bit confused with this table. Is Mini C0 (toy) or C0 (not toy)? Because the opinions about Mini varied in that matter ;-)

But after a more careful reading, Mini will be a Legacy drone after July 2022, so the whole conversation is quite theoritical. 2 years is long time for todays world :-)

The drone has to be classified at time of manufacture so will be legacy when the rule comes in, however DJI could realease a new model with classification but it won't apply retrospectively to any already sold.

Maybe a different C2 but that's what it says on mine
Edit - if you read the table 'and my post' you will see it talks about max distance from controller, not just weight

The big question for me is if I am able to go on holiday somewhere in EU in 18 months time can I just chuck the mini in my suitcase or should I worry about getting stopped and questioned about registration in the country I land in?

Maybe a different C2 but that's what it says on mine

this has nothing to do with the UA class. Here is a link how the class marking should look like. In any way it cannot be C2 as it is below 250 gr.

The reasoning is NOT weight, but the fact that the Mavic Mini has a camera on board that can record video, and therefore may violate  privacy of other people.
In Europe you therefore need to take an online test and pass the test.

If I'm not mistaken, the test is necessary if the drone exceeds 250 grams.

I am not sure if it got postponed or not. The official website still states the new rules are going to be enforced on july 1st.

The rules states:

Registration of UAS operators & certified drones becomes mandatory.  
Starting from 1st July 2020 all drone operators shall register themselves before using a drone:
* in the ‘Open’ category, with a weight
- more than 250g

OR
- less then 250g when it is not a toy AND it is equipped with a sensor able to capture personal data

I believe the Mavic Mini is going to be put into the C0 (not a toy) category

This would mean registering your drone, taking an online test, pass the test - know the rules and fly.

its not a driving license, driving license is for car, you don't drive a drone, you fly a drone so maybe call it a license to fly or whatever

Some politicans had the idea to postpone it to January 2021. But the Austrian drone sites point out, that in June we will know for sure what is happening (1. July 2020 or January 2021).

I talked with some higher drone guys in Austria (for the insurance about Mavic Mini) and it should be an easy thing, when the EU has finally done it..
